Marilyn earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Northridge. She has studied abroad in Mexico City, is bilingual and has an interest in Latin American Family Therapy and multicultural issues.
She has facilitated adolescent, adults, and family groups for Intensive Outpatient Programs and Residential Treatment Centers. She is passionate about helping clients and families become more aware of the link between the mind and body as they work toward recovery and sobriety.
Marilyn cultivates awareness of stagnant emotions through mindfulness. She believes it is helpful to practice meditation strategies to reduce stress levels in order to be more present in the moment.
Marilyn is a Certified Seeking Safety Therapist.
Trauma and PTSD often coexist with substance abuse, Marilyn tackles both simultaneously using Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. During treatment she supports clients’ families which reinforces long term and optimal recovery.
Marilyn’s background includes working with Children, Young Adults, Individuals and Couples in the field of addiction, blended families, divorce, trauma and spirituality.
She is currently running Young Adults and Women’s Groups.
